About Tempe

Named After Vale Of Tempe, In Greece

Founded November 29, 1894

Hohokam Natives lived in Tempe in 500-1450 A.D.

Lived in the semiarid region of present-day central and southern Arizona, largely along the Gila and Salt rivers.

Hayden-Flour Mill burned down in 1917

Tempe's Hayden Flour Mill, built in 1874 and considered the longest continually operating Flour mill. The mill burned in 1917 and was later rebuilt.
